SME Recruitment

Posted by Mitch on 15th January 2010

Given everything that has happened in the economy over the past 15 months in terms of global corporate largesse, this writer has generally been of the opinion that it will be the SME’s that lead us out of recession.

So you can imagine my delight to hear that recruitment is “booming” and has reached a “two year high”.

A few days later, my delight was tinged with a more familiar shaking of the head when I read that they blow £69 million on weak recruitment decisions – a number that apparently represents some 55,000 new employees quickly returning to the job market. Or 22% of all hires.

Are these weak decisions made in the interview? Or could it be because they haven’t specified the role well enough or not worked hard enough to attract enough of the right people?

Based on my experience of working with SME’s, it’s probably the latter two reasons ..and in some cases compounded by the fact that they’ve bought these candidates from job agencies.
