Jordan Belfort used to be a dick

I see lots of quotes and images of The Wolf of Wolf Street on LinkedIn.

Most of them are posted to promote some kind of positive, winning mentality in business. A lot of them are posted by inexperienced people doing shitty jobs, selling shitty products, who think they’re going to be fucking millionaires one day.

I hate people like that.

They’re the kind of people you meet in a bar, that within 10 minutes of listening to their bullshit, you’re trying to set fire to yourself. People who think being “passionate” means everyone is going to assume they know what they’re doing.

Sorry about that.

Back to Jordan Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street. The man who has cut more lines than disabled kids at Disneyland.

Many of the comments I see people make on these kinds of updates tend to mock Mr Belfort’s attempts at reinventing himself – and a few cheerleading the fact he has turned his back on making money unethically.

I agree that everyone should be able to move-on from their past. Most people have screwed-up at some point and the best of them have used those experiences to improve who they are.

If Jordan Belfort had moved-on by starting a real business (i.e. one that employs people) I think pretty much everyone would have applauded him.

But instead, all he’s doing now is making money by telling people he used to be a huckster.

This is just another form of hucksterism.

Do you really need to be a dick to be capable of warning people of the dangers of being a dick?

I don’t think so.

How do you know if someone is a reformed drug addict?  Don’t worry they’ll soon tell you. Does everyone have to wear their victim hood like a badge?

Huckster - “One who writes advertising copy” - You love copy writers don’t you Mitch? ;-)

Whose definition is that, Scott?

But yes, I do love copywriters.

The man who has cut more lines than disabled kids at Disneyland.

Awesome line…
