The Acceptance Speech

A few days back, this blog won an award.

My previous skirmishes with the world of awards notwithstanding, I felt it was only right and proper that I offer-up an acceptance speech.

And so, in the spirit of what the award was based on, I thought I’d do this in a blog.

OK, here goes..

“Firstly, I’d like to thank all of the friends of the judges who didn’t update their blog over the past year. Without their inertia, this award wouldn’t have been possible.

I’m surprised at getting this, given that I didn’t nominate myself. I guess incessant blogging does get you noticed. That and the swearing.

But there is one thing I don’t quite understand. Why didn’t I win this award for the past 3 years? I read all the blogs of the previous winners and I didn’t think they were all that good.

So what was that all about?

Did you previously judge these blogs on their ease of navigation?

Or was it the fonts and the colours?

Maybe it was the pictures of clouds and pretty people in suits that were the biggest influencers?

Did content (you know, the words) suddenly come back into fashion?

If I’m honest (and you know how much I’m addicted to that shit) I thought my blog has been the best recruitment blog for the past 3 years. In fact, if you were going to keep not giving me this award, I was going to suggest that you rename it ‘The 2nd Best Recruitment Blog Of The Year’.

Sorry, I’m probably sounding ungrateful.

Thank you very much for this award. I have that warm tingly feeling that can only be gotten by knowing that a tiny cross-section of my industry peers have taken me to their bosom, metaphorically speaking.

One last thing. Can I make one quick suggestion about next year’s award?

Could the trophy be replaced with a cash prize? I’m asking only as being a blogger pays really badly.

But seriously, thanks.”
